Humphrey's father was executed at Tyburn as a traitor after the Battle of Bosworth field. His lands were taken from him and granted to Sir Edward Poynings. Sir Humphrey did restore the family to royal favour. He received a pardon from Henry VIII, and in 1515 was granted a partial restoration of his land. At the time of his fathers death, Sir Humphrey was only eight years old, and became betrothed to Margaret Fogge, daughter of Sir John.
